Hailed by Gérard Collomb as « a park that is a reference throughout the world », this project proposes a new approach to public space, sports, and leasure activity in urban areas. The wave of the ramparts, which displays on the Blandan site an attack of the fortifications of the nineteenth century, in front of a collapsed wall, facing the new Place d’Armes, triggered the collective hysteria of children and families from the day of its opening. The third park of Lyon offers a complete line of custom furniture, adapted to the programmed uses of the site. A « Wooden construction » lot has been integrated in the call for tender, which brings together a 1000 m² playground, as well as all seat pieces, plus various game structures. This lot, which exceeds one million euros, benefits from a systematic approach, with 4 different sections that allow to build all devices. This will make it easy for the facility managers, whether they are technicians, apprentices or gardeners, to replace parts that need to be changed. Beyond the economic and constructive interest of this system, it is above all maintenance that will benefit from this approach. Instead of ordering spare parts, this park’s managers can replace each part of the playground and furniture by selecting from the mentioned 4 sections. Of course, a stock of a few cubic meters of pre-cut wood according to the 4 sections was available in the market.
