The urban park, consisting of a wooded area of 11 hectares, results from the strong opposition of the inhabitants and the municipality, at the turn of the 60s and 70s, to the disappearance of wood for the needs of the ZUP. A living landscape, this wood is home to valuable flora and fauna, including some protected species.
The goal of the project is to significantly increase the number of visitors in the park by setting up family-oriented leisure areas, and to allow the organization of events, for example around the literary café that was proposed in the competition.
In order to transcribe and magnify the qualities of the site, the project integrates the edge of the wood to define and structure venues for sports, games and meetings. This forest figure, rarely present on the site today, weaves the links between wooded spaces and the meadow. The edge enriches the ecological heritage of wood while becoming the support of new equipment. It creates various experiences during a walk in the park. A soundscape is integrated into the lighting, and the new playground is a 25 m diameter ring, leaning at 15°, that transposes an outdoors scene from the Space Odyssey as well as an escape room session.
